United Democratic Alliance (UDA) acting Secretary General Hassan Omar Sarai has confirmed almost 300 legislators have appended their signatures in support of a motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

He said the motion to impeach the DP is more than just a UDA affair.

"The move to impeach Gachagua is a national affair and not just the party's affair," he said.

Sarai said the move is a campaign against ethnic hostilities.

He was addressing the media during a UDA students chapter forum held at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Mombasa county.

The UDA acting Secretary General told the media Gachagua lacks the qualities of being the country’s VP.

Sarai, who is also East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) member said he is reliably informed that majority of the party legislators have appended their signatures to impeach Gachagua.

He added the next move after the impeachment sails through will be to eject Gachagua from holding party membership.

"The party's stand will go with the stand of the majority of legislators to impeach Gachagua at the national assembly," he said.

Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi who is UDA National treasurer said the motion is yet to be brought to the floor of the national assembly and promised to scrutinize the motion before it is brought to the house.

He argued If the motion has sustainable grounds to impeach Gachagua it will do.

"If the impeachment motion lacks sufficient grounds to impeach Gachagua he will have another chance to serve the country as DP," he pointed out.

The legislator told the media that it is a matter of great concern that Gachagua has taken an ethnic line in politics and does not want to engage those from other counties apart from the Mt Kenya region.
