Thousands of young people are set to benefit from a KSh 3 billion entrepreneurship empowerment initiative under the World Bank-funded National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program.
The project, launched two years ago, seeks to empower 800,000 vulnerable youths with entrepreneurship skills, access to government procurement opportunities, and business development services. It targets young people aged between 18 and 29, and up to 35 years for persons with disabilities.
Successful applicants will receive KSh 50,000 in start-up capital alongside two months of comprehensive business mentorship to equip them with the skills needed to start and manage viable enterprises.
Beneficiaries with sound business ideas will also be mentored by business development experts.Cluster One of the program kicked off on Monday in the Western region, covering Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, and Busia counties.
The formal launch of the NYOTA project will be presided over by President William Ruto next week.Since its inception, the program has attracted over 1.5 million applications from youths countrywide.
