Trans Nzoia County will host the 2025 Kenya National Youth Chess Championship from August 1st to 5th.
The event will be co-hosted by St. Joseph’s Boys High School and St. Joseph’s Girls High School in Kitale.
According to Chess Kenya, an official invitation circular will be issued once final confirmation is received to guide the registration and participation process for all interested parties.
“This championship is a key qualifier for several major upcoming international events, including the East Africa School Games in Kakamega, the Africa Youth Chess Championship in Zimbabwe, the World Cadets Championship in Kazakhstan, and the World Youth Chess Championship in Albania,” said the federation.
Participation in the national event will be crucial for players seeking to represent Kenya on both continental and global stages.
However, Chess Kenya has clarified that since chess remains under demonstration status, participants will be responsible for their own logistics.
While the federation will handle the tournament’s administrative and technical costs, players and schools must cover their travel and accommodation expenses.
As part of preparations for these junior-level events, Chess Kenya is urging parents, coaches, and schools across the country to intensify training.
The goal is to build a strong team capable of representing Kenya competitively on the international chess circuit.
