East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has launched a scathing attack on a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders she accuses of pursuing selfish interests and deliberately sidelining her from the party’s internal affairs.

Speaking during a charged rally in Kibra, Nairobi, on Sunday, Winnie said she would not remain silent when things go wrong within the party, despite resistance from some quarters.

She acknowledged facing internal pushback but insisted that intimidation would not stop her from speaking out.

“As the last born, when you see things go wrong, lazima uchome. I have come kuchoma,” Winnie said, drawing loud cheers from supporters.

In a fiery address, the EALA MP said she often reflects deeply on the state of ODM and the internal turmoil she believes has gripped the party in recent times.

Addressing the crowd, Winnie said the situation in ODM sometimes reminds her of a song, noting that one particular line keeps ringing in her head whenever she thinks about what is happening in the party.

“There was one song ringing in my head,” she said, referencing the late Kenyan rapper E-Sir’s hit Hamunitishi.

“Small threats will do nothing to me. You cannot scare me,” she added.

Winnie painted a picture of a party struggling to find direction following the reduced public presence of its longtime leader Raila Odinga, likening ODM to a vehicle whose driver is suddenly absent.

“From what I have heard here, our party has a lot going on,” she told the rally.

“We were passengers and Baba was the driver, and then one day Baba was no more,” she said, in remarks that appeared to highlight leadership and direction challenges within the party.
