Winnie Odinga and Raila Odinga Junior have pitched camp in Kibra Constituency, where they met long-time supporters of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to discuss the party’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at Kamukunji Grounds in Kibra, Winnie Odinga hinted at possible leadership changes within the party in the coming months. She said she is pushing for the convening of a National Delegates Conference (NDC) to strengthen ODM’s leadership structures well before the 2027 polls.
Winnie also affirmed her support for ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, despite calls from some party leaders for their removal. At the same time, she criticised Kibra leaders, accusing them of neglecting the challenges faced by residents of the constituency.
Meanwhile, ODM leader Oburu Odinga’s tour of Kakamega County was marked by tension as rival factions held separate delegates’ meetings. One faction was led by Cooperative Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya in Butere, while the other, led by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, convened a parallel meeting in Kakamega town.
Downplaying the leadership wrangles in the county, Oburu Odinga attended both meetings and urged delegates to support the planned talks between ODM and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He said the party is making every effort to position itself within government ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The developments underscore ongoing internal consultations within ODM as the party prepares for the next electoral cycle.
