Former Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic has announced his retirement from professional tennis.

The 35-year-old Canadian reached the Wimbledon final in 2016 after defeating Roger Federer, before losing in straight sets to Great Britain’s Andy Murray.

That year marked the peak of Raonic’s career, as he climbed to a career-high world ranking of number three and also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Raonic captured eight tour-level titles during his career and was renowned for his powerful serve, which earned him the nickname “Missile.” He confirmed his decision in a post on social media.

“The time has come, I am retiring from tennis,” Raonic wrote. “This is a moment you know will come one day, but somehow you never feel ready for it. This is as ready as I will ever be. Tennis has been my love and obsession for most of my life.”

His final professional appearance came at the 2024 Olympic Games, where he was beaten in the first round by Germany’s Dominik Koepfer.

Born in Titograd, Yugoslavia—now Podgorica, Montenegro—Raonic moved to Canada at the age of three.

He claimed his first ATP title at the Pacific Coast Championships in 2011, launching a career that established him as one of Canada’s most successful male players.
