The United States Embassy in Nairobi has issued a security alert, cautioning its citizens of possible terrorist attacks in Kenya, particularly in areas frequented by foreigners, including tourists.
The warning advises heightened vigilance in response to potential threats.
In a statement, the embassy highlighted that terrorists may target high-traffic locations such as hotels, restaurants, malls, embassies, and markets. Schools, police stations, places of worship, and other sites popular among tourists and foreign nationals are also considered potential targets.
“Terrorists may attack with little or no warning,” the alert stated, noting that the risks are particularly elevated around the anniversaries of previous attacks, including the September 11th attacks in the U.S., the September 21st Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi, and the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel.
The embassy urged U.S. citizens to remain alert, review their personal security measures, and stay informed by monitoring local news for updates.
Additionally, the embassy recommended avoiding crowded areas and locations where demonstrations are likely to occur.
