Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has, for the first time, spoken publicly about facing health challenges since leaving office in 2022.
Speaking during the funeral service of former Housing Finance Managing Director Frank Ireri, Uhuru shared a rare and emotional reflection, revealing that the late Ireri had offered him guidance and encouragement during a difficult period in his life.
“I have lost a friend and a colleague. And especially for me. I don’t know whether I should say this but these are realities of life,” Uhuru said.
“In the last year, a good part of this year, whenever we met, he was very encouraging about some of the challenges that we were going through. And since he had more experience than some of us, he guided me on how to look at and handle some of these challenges in life, health and otherwise.” He disclosed.
His remarks, delivered before close friends, family, and dignitaries, marked the first public hint that the former President may have battled a significant health condition after his retirement.
While Uhuru did not disclose details about the illness, his tone and reflections suggested that he had endured a difficult period that required both emotional and moral support from those close to him, including the late Ireri.
