Yesterday, Speaker Wakili Charles Thiong’o led the County Assembly of Kiambu in celebrating a watershed moment after four staff members were awarded scholarships to further their Master’s degrees at top universities in China.The Ministry of Finance and Commerce (MOFCO), the Government of the People’s Republic of China, facilitates the scholarships.
Kiambu County Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Thiongo, has turned out to be a frontrunner and is the only county assembly in Kenya to be the recipient of this program. Even more impressive is the fact that it garnered the greatest number of beneficiaries across the country, purely based on the quality of staff working under his leadership. In his remarks, Thiongo lauded the breakthrough as a clear demonstration of the Assembly’s commitment to human capacity building and empowering its staff.
He stressed that although the scholarships will enrich the laureates, they will also increase the Assembly’s capacity to provide quality services to the people of Kiambu.”Our aspiration of transforming Kithe ambu County Assembly into a premier and model county assembly in the country is achievable and in fact, well underway, with our emphasis on transformative and impactful leadership that is people-centred and service delivery-oriented,” Thiong said.
Besides, he stated that the global experience and progressive studies the staff will undertake will lead to knowledge sharing, creativity, and institutional performance upon their return.
This triumph is a marker for theaker Thiongo’s transformative leadership credentials as it positively impacts governance, capacity building, and international cooperation for Kithe ambu County Assembly.
In line with this, the Assembly has been placed among the best-performing county assemblies in the country, an award that further gives credit to its professionalism, innovation, and service delivery.
With that approach, Wakili Thiongo, who is well known for his strategic management, not only keeps the bar high but brings in international partners as a way of enhancing the staff capacity, thus making the Kiambu County Assembly a model for good governance and progressive leadership in Kenya.
