Nairobi South MCA Waithera Chege and Affordable Housing Board member Ruth Wekesa have lauded the ongoing affordable housing programme, saying it is already transforming lives across the city.
Speaking during a community engagement forum in Starehe Constituency, the leaders underscored the importance of ensuring that deserving residents are prioritized in the allocation of new housing units.
MCA Waithera Chege, who has been at the forefront of championing the initiative, emphasized her commitment to transparency and fairness in the programme’s rollout.
“Every ordinary Kenyan deserves a dignified place to call home, and we must ensure that the people who need these houses the most actually get them,” she said.
Beyond housing, Chege has also been a strong defender of land rights in South B Ward, where residents have raised concerns about encroachment and land grabbing. She pledged to continue standing with her constituents in safeguarding their property and community spaces.
Board member Ruth Wekesa echoed her sentiments, noting that the affordable housing programme is not just about shelter but also about creating jobs, boosting local economies, and restoring dignity to urban dwellers.
With the government’s plan to roll out thousands of units across Nairobi, residents say the combined efforts of leaders like Chege and Wekesa will be key in ensuring the dream of affordable housing becomes a reality for all.
