Gender-based violence (GBV) activism nonprofit Usikimye issued a public announcement affirming significant structural changes as part of its 2024–2025 organizational development plan. The announcement, published by co-founder Njeri Migwi, affirms the nonprofit’s continued efforts to anchor its mission while placing recent leadership changes into context.

As described in the press release, Usikimye underwent a strategic planning exercise and redesign, where it took on a five-year Strategic Plan and revamped its digital platforms to align learning, partnerships, and programs with its ultimate goal eliminating all forms of GBV, including femicide.

The statement also confirms that Stella Khachina, the co-founder of the organization alongside Migwi, resigned as co-founder and board member, effective from January 1, 2025. The organization clarified that Khachina is no longer involved in its operations.

“Usikimye continues working towards creating a safer, more equitable world free from GBV,” the statement reads. “We remain committed to increasing safe, quality services and improving prevention, mitigation, and response.”.

Njeri Migwi, a powerful voice on gender-based violence in Kenya, shared the update in gratitude to partners and allies who have stood with Usikimye through its transformation. The organization signaled that these changes constitute its vision for the long term to create sustainable infrastructure that serves survivors’ and communities’ needs.

As Usikimye begins its new journey, it reaffirms its commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and continued advocacy for women and girls across the country.
