At least 15,000 needy students from Dagoreti North will benefit from the bursary allocation drive that came to an end on Saturday morning.
Dagoreti North MP Beatrice Elachi confirmed the closure of the exercise that sawa thousands of students and parents line up to secure their applications.
“We received over 10,000 applications, and were able to identify and support even more needy and deserving children, ensuring they are not left behind in their education journey,” Elachi said
She said the exercise was a success and thanked the parents, guardians, students, community leaders, and all stakeholders for the three days of cooperation, patience, and orderliness that made it a smooth and effective exercise.
On Friday,Kenyans took to the social media to the MP for her Hands-On Bursary Exercise following the circulation of videos showing her personally overseeing the distribution of bursaries to needy students.
The videos captured the MP engaging directly with applicants during the three day exercise, where she spent time guiding applicants through the process.
Elachi was seen explaining application requirements, helping students and parents correct mistakes, and offering alternative options to those who did not initially qualify.
Many Kenyans praised the legislator’s hands-on approach, describing it as a rare show of commitment, patience, and accountability in public service. Supporters noted that her willingness to personally supervise the process ensured fairness and reduced confusion among applicants.
The exercise has also sparked broader conversation, with several citizens calling on other Members of Parliament to emulate Elachi’s example by dedicating time to bursary disbursement and directly engaging with constituents, rather than delegating the process entirely to aides or offices.
The positive reaction underscores growing public demand for more accessible, transparent, and people-centred leadership, particularly in matters affecting education and vulnerable families
