The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has received 30 drug test kits and 30 precursor test kits from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Nairobi Office, to strengthen Kenya’s fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
Each kit can conduct up to 500 tests, significantly boosting the capacity of enforcement and laboratory teams to detect narcotics and precursor chemicals.
Speaking during the handover in Nairobi, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa said the donation would enhance law enforcement and prevention efforts. “With these kits, NACADA and our partner agencies will be better equipped to detect narcotics and precursor chemicals quickly and accurately.
This will enhance intelligence-led enforcement and help disrupt supply chains before drugs reach our communities,” he noted.
UNODC representative Boniface Wilunda described the kits as reliable and field-friendly, saying they would enable agencies to act with speed and confidence in identifying substances.
The donation comes as the government intensifies a 100-day Rapid Results Initiative targeting illicit alcohol and drugs, spearheaded by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
It also supports the recently launched National Alcohol Policy 2025, which emphasizes stronger enforcement, evidence-based interventions, and international cooperation.
