UDA Vows to Honour Raila–Ruto Pact as Leaders Rally Support Ahead of Malava By-Election

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Hassan Omar has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to fully honouring the Memorandum of Understanding signed between UDA and ODM—an agreement that includes the 10-point agenda crafted together with the late Raila Odinga.

Speaking at a gathering of UDA delegates in Vihiga, Omar said the party intends to implement every detail of the NADCO report and the broader unity framework that was negotiated before Odinga’s passing.

“We in UDA will ensure we honour Raila Odinga’s commitment. Every agreement he reached with President William Ruto will be implemented, word for word. That is the greatest tribute we can give the fallen hero, Raila Odinga,” Omar told the delegates.

He emphasized that the coalition remains focused on advancing the proposed governance reforms, revitalising the economy, and delivering on every recommendation captured in both the NADCO report and the joint 10-point agenda.

“As UDA and ODM, we will walk this journey together. Baba wanted unity, and we will fulfil that wish,” he added.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy used the platform to rally the Luhya community behind the UDA candidate in the upcoming Malava by-election, saying the outcome could influence the political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“This vote is extremely important for the Western region and for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. It is essential that UDA wins this seat. Even if our opponents join forces, they cannot defeat us,” Timamy said.

Host MP Omboko Milemba, who also serves as UDA’s deputy secretary-general, said the meeting was part of an effort to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence following the merger between UDA and ANC.

“This meeting was meant to bring our leaders closer to the people. We have not had a better opportunity to engage with our grassroots than today,” he said.
