The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has weighed in on the ongoing calls to hasten the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the 2027 polls.

In a statement, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar first dismissed the assertion that it is President William Ruto’s government deliberately delaying the reconstitution.

Hassan noted the Kiambu High Court Constitutional Petition No.43 of 2024 which stopped the process of appointment of the panel that is subsequently meant to recruit IEBC commissioners and the electoral body’s chairman.

He implored the litigants in the case, who he noted are members of the Azimio coalition, to withdraw their case to enable the reconstitution process to be completed.

"We also implore upon the Judiciary to consider the possibility that the need for the constitution of the IEBC far much outweighs any grievances of any person that may be prejudiced in the formation of the recruitment panel," said Hassan.
