Two people were shot dead and two others injured in a deadly bandit attack yesterday at Loberer along the Marigat-Chemolingot route, in what appears to be a resurgence of highway robbery in the region. The victims, all traders en route to Nginyang market, were travelling in two trucks under police escort when they were ambushed by suspected bandits.

The attackers, believed to have now morphed into highway robbers, sprayed the vehicles with bullets in a brutal assault that has reignited fear among road users.

According to local reports, the incident occurred despite the presence of a police escort, underscoring the growing boldness and danger posed by the criminal elements. The Marigat-Loruk road, once a vital link for traders and travelers in the region, has increasingly become a hotspot for such attacks, prompting authorities to provide armed escorts for convoys.

The bodies of the two deceased have since been moved to the Baringo County Hospital mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment. Tension is high in the area following the deadly ambush, with residents and local leaders calling for immediate and sustained security interventions.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but security operations are expected to be heightened along the volatile route.
