Turkana Hospital Receives Sh57 Million Medical Supplies

Lodwar County Referral Hospital in Turkana received a new batch of medical supplies worth Sh57 million, in a move aimed at ensuring patients continue to get services without disruption.

The supplies were delivered on Monday through the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority and include essential drugs, lab reagents, non-medical items, and renal care supplies. Hospital officials say the stock is expected to last for about eight months.

Speaking during the delivery, Chief Officer for Specialised and Emergency Services, Dominic Emase, said the supplies are part of the county’s plan to improve services at the main referral hospital.

“We have received supplies worth Sh57 million to support services at the hospital. They include drugs, lab items and other important supplies needed to improve patient care,” he said.

He added that the process was overseen by the County Assembly Health Committee, led by Napion Patrick, together with members of the hospital board to ensure transparency.

Emase assured residents that there is no shortage of medicine at the facility.

“We want to assure the public that we have enough drugs and there is no cause for alarm. The supplies we have received will take us for the next eight months,” he said.

Hospital CEO Nancy Kinyonge also confirmed that the facility has enough stock and has improved how it manages supplies.

She said the hospital has put in place systems to track all medicines and ensure accountability.

“For the past eight months, we have managed our stock well. Now, every drug issued is recorded in the system, whether for inpatients or outpatients, and we have also strengthened security,” she said.

Kinyonge said the changes are meant to prevent shortages and make sure patients continue to receive the care they need.
