Residents of Tomiyoi village in Samburu County are threatening to kill an elephant that fatally attacked a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) ranger on Sunday night, escalating tensions between the community and wildlife authorities.

According to local leaders, the rogue elephant has been terrorizing the area for months, leaving behind a trail of destruction. In the past ten months alone, the animal has allegedly killed seven people, sparking anger and fear among villagers who now say they have had enough.”We cannot continue to live in fear in our own land. This elephant has become a threat to our lives,” said a resident during a tense community meeting.

The community is calling on KWS to urgently contain the animal, warning that failure to act could result in the residents taking matters into their own hands. They are demanding immediate intervention to prevent further loss of life.

Efforts by KWS to locate and isolate the elephant are ongoing. The agency has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the latest incident or outline a concrete plan to address the community’s concerns.

This comes as human-wildlife conflict continues to rise in parts of Kenya, with conservationists urging for balanced solutions that protect both human lives and endangered wildlife.
