Three people have reportedly lost their eyesight after consuming illicit brew at Kangai village in Mwea West sub-county, Kirinyaga County.
The victims were rushed to Karii Dispensary in Kangai with complaints of deteriorating vision, where they received first aid before being transferred to Kerugoya Level Five Hospital for specialized treatment.
According to Kirinyaga County authorities, the three patients are in stable condition and are currently recuperating at the hospital.
Investigations have been launched to determine the source of the toxic brew.This incident revives painful memories in the region, coming barely a year after a similar tragedy in which 17 people lost their lives and several others went blind after consuming illicit alcohol in the same area.
Authorities have vowed to intensify the crackdown on illegal alcohol brewing and distribution in the county to prevent further loss of lives.
