National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has urged Members of Parliament to enhance their security following the murder of Kasipul lawmaker Charles Ong’ondo Were.
Were was shot dead on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, along Ngong Road, near the City Mortuary roundabout.
Speaking on Tuesday, May 6, Wetang’ula cautioned the MPs that, by virtue of their positions, they are not loved by everyone, and what happened to Were can also happen to them.
“I encourage members; what has happened to Ong'ondo Were can happen to anyone. So I urge you to tighten your security; don't fear to live and don't live in fear, but be careful. As Members of Parliament, very few people like you.
For strange reasons, people who want to come into Parliament don’t like people in Parliament," said Wetang'ula.
The speaker was speaking at Were’s home in Karen, where, together with other lawmakers, they visited to console the family.
Earlier, Wetang’ula led a group of MPs to the Lee Funeral Home to view the body of their deceased colleague.
