A sombre mood engulfed Mukhweya village in Bungoma county as family, friends, and mourners gathered for National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s mother’s sendoff.

During the funeral service, Speaker Wetang’ula was captured wiping tears while viewing the body of his beloved mother, Mama Anna Nanyama Wetang’ula.

Wetang’ula later penned a touching tribute to his mother, thanking her for a lifetime of care, guidance, and unwavering support.

"As I lay my hand on Maayi’s coffin, I feel the weight of her love and the depth of her sacrifice. This touch is my final gesture of gratitude, my way of saying thank you for a lifetime of care, guidance, and unwavering support. Though I cannot hold her hand anymore, I hold onto her memory, her wisdom, and the legacy she left behind. Rest peacefully, Maayi. Your love will forever be my strength," said Wetang'ula.
