Sky Victor, daughter of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo, has publicly expressed her opposition to a report court ruling granting her biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, custody of her and her younger brother Danny.

In a live stream on October 27, Sky stated she was distressed by the decision and wanted to remain with her stepfather, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, with whom she and her brother had been living together since their mother’s death.

“If you’re going to take me from this house, please take me where Mum is. Let me go lie with her. Wherever my Mum is, I go to heaven with her before you even take me to my baba. Please, I’m not going there. And I refuse. I refuse completely. I refuse. I refuse,” Sky said.

According to Sky, the ruling has affected both her and Danny, adding they have struggled to sleep while her brother has cried over the situation.

“And I’m not doing this live for me. I’m doing it for Danny. It’s very painful watching him cry. Let us just stay where our Mum left us. That’s all we beg. That’s all we ask for,” she added.

The dispute follows the death of Betty Bayo in November 2025, during which Bayo had two children with Kanyari before their relationship ended and later married Gitau.

Following her death, questions arose over the children’s care and living arrangements, bringing Kanyari and Gitau into a public dispute over their welfare.

Kanyari has previously raised concerns about the children’s welfare, including school fees and access to them, while Sky has publicly credited Gitau with providing care and stability during difficult periods in the family’s life.

According to Section 34 of the Children Act, parental responsibility automatically prioritizes a surviving biological parent upon the death of the mother.
