ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has issued an apology to former President Uhuru Kenyatta on behalf of the Orange Democratic Movement, saying the former Head of State deserves respect for his role in supporting Raila Odinga and the party.
Speaking during the burial of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, Sifuna said Uhuru played a key role in backing Raila Odinga’s presidential bid and should not be subjected to political attacks.
“I want to apologise on behalf of ODM. Uhuru Kenyatta stood with Raila Odinga and supported this party. He deserves respect,” Sifuna said.
The Nairobi Senator condemned individuals he accused of attacking the former president for political gain, warning that such actions were aimed at weakening ODM for selfish interests.
According to Sifuna, some politicians are deliberately targeting Uhuru as part of a wider scheme to undermine the party.
“Those attacking Uhuru want to sell ODM. We will not allow that to happen,” he said, drawing applause from mourners.
Sifuna made the remarks during the emotional burial ceremony of Cyrus Jirongo, where leaders from across the political divide gathered to pay their last respects.
He reaffirmed ODM’s loyalty to its ideals and leadership, saying the party remains united despite ongoing political realignments.
