Several people are feared dead following a road accident involving a matatu and a saloon car along Mombasa Road near Syokimau on Thursday night.
The accident happened between Quiver Mombasa Road and Katani, with preliminary reports indicating that at least eight people may have died.
Images and videos from the scene showed the 18-seater matatu badly damaged, with its front section completely wrecked.
The saloon car was also badly damaged after the two vehicles collided and ended up in a ditch.
The matatu was reportedly travelling towards Nairobi while the saloon car was heading towards Katani when the crash occurred.
The force caused extensive damage to the windscreen and the driver’s cabin of the matatu and was observed to find the black saloon car overturned in the ditch.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene to facilitate the rescue operations.
Nevertheless, it had not yet been confirmed as to how many of the involved parties had been rescued from the crash nor the injured at the time of publishing.
The police would be expected to carry out investigations on the crash to establish the cause of the collision.
The latest crash marks yet another incident amongst a series of fatal road crashes being experienced in the country recently.
Last Monday, August 17th, two individuals lost their lives following a collision between a Range Rover and a motorbike on Riverside Drive in Westlands, Nairobi.
The boda boda rider and the Range Rover driver lost their lives at the scene and some other occupants of the vehicle were hospitalized.
According to the Kenya Red Cross Society, 31 individuals had lost their lives and 75 others had incurred injuries from 23 road accidents within the first two weeks of August.
