President William Ruto has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to delivering Talanta Stadium, saying the facility is on course and will be ready to meet international standards ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The stadium, designed to align with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements, is expected to serve as Kenya’s premier venue for the continental tournament, which the country will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
“Talanta Stadium will not only meet CAF standards, but it will also stand as a symbol of Kenya’s readiness to host Africa and the world,” President Ruto said in his statement. “This project is central to our vision of placing sports at the heart of national pride and economic growth.”
Beyond football, the head of state emphasized that the facility will become a multi-purpose hub, hosting concerts, cultural festivals, and national celebrations.
The move, he noted, is part of his administration’s strategy to strengthen both Kenya’s sporting sector and the wider creative economy.
“Sports and culture are powerful drivers of unity and economic opportunity,” Ruto added. “Talanta Stadium will provide a world-class stage not just for athletes, but also for musicians, creatives, and communities to showcase their talent.”
