President William Ruto on Friday welcomed three new Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) to his administration, emphasizing that their vast experience in both executive and legislative roles would be instrumental in driving the government’s service delivery agenda.
Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony at State House, Ruto expressed confidence in the capabilities of the new appointees, stating that they would help mobilize government machinery to effectively meet the needs of Kenyans.
“Without exception, all the three cabinet secretaries have extensive experience in both executive and legislative work of our public service,” President Ruto remarked. “For this reason, I am confident of the skills and the capabilities that they bring in their new roles.”

The new appointees are former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, who has been named CS for ICT; ex-Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, who will take charge of the Ministry of Trade and Industry; and former Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe, who has been appointed as the new CS for Agriculture and Livestock.
Ruto praised their extensive backgrounds, noting that their past experiences as governors and legislators would significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations.
Kagwe, in particular, has served as Nyeri senator and held ministerial positions under both the Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta administrations.

“I served with Kagwe and Kabogo in Parliament when they were elected to the 9th Parliament, and Kinyanjui later in the 10th Parliament,” the President said, highlighting the longstanding leadership experience of the new appointees.
With an eye on enhancing service delivery and fostering inclusive economic growth, Ruto emphasized the importance of strong leadership in the government. He reiterated that the new CSs were well-equipped to drive the government’s development agenda, ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind.

The appointments come at a critical juncture for the government, which is under increased scrutiny as it faces challenges related to its ability to deliver on campaign promises. The new appointments are part of Ruto’s efforts to steady the ship and ensure steady progress as the country heads toward the 2027 elections.
