Former Minister for Works and Bungoma Central MP, Nathan Munoko, has passed away.

President William Ruto has expressed his condolences, remembering Munoko as a transformative and visionary leader who made a lasting impact on Kenya’s political landscape.

“Our country has lost a selfless and dedicated leader who served with distinction. Nathan Munoko was one of Kenya’s pioneering politicians, having served as a Minister, Assistant Minister, and MP. He was progressive, focused, and a trendsetter. May God grant his family, loved ones, and the people of Bungoma County strength during this difficult time. Rest in peace,” Ruto said.

Munoko’s political career spanned from the 1960s to the 1980s, beginning as an MP and later serving as Assistant Minister in the Cabinet of Kenya’s first President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

He held several key positions, including Assistant Minister for Co-operatives and Marketing in 1964, Assistant Minister for Housing and Social Services in 1965, Assistant Minister for Local Government in 1966, and Assistant Minister for Agriculture in 1974.

From 1975 to 1979, he served as Minister for Works.

Munoko was also active in the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party, serving in various roles, including National Organizing Secretary from 1966 to 1985 and National Executive Officer from 1985 to 1988.

A former teacher, administrator, and veterinary officer, Munoko passed away at the age of 102.
