President William Ruto on Sunday evening arrived in Kakamega County to begin a five-day development tour across the Western Kenya region, shortly after attending the globally recognised Safari Rally Kenya in the Rift Valley.

Upon arrival, the Head of State inspected the ongoing rehabilitation and expansion works at the Kakamega Airstrip, a key infrastructure project expected to improve regional connectivity and open up the Western region for business, tourism and investment.

The government has allocated about Sh400 million for the rehabilitation and completion of the airstrip, which will include upgrades to the runway, taxiways and apron to enable safer and more reliable flight operations.

The project is part of a broader plan by the national government to transform the facility into a modern regional aviation hub capable of handling increased passenger and cargo traffic while supporting economic activities in Kakamega and neighbouring counties.

Once fully operational, the airstrip is expected to reduce travel time to Nairobi and other major cities while boosting trade, investment and tourism in the Western Kenya region.

During the tour, President Ruto is expected to launch and inspect several development projects across Western Kenya counties, focusing on infrastructure, trade, housing, health and agriculture as the government seeks to unlock the region’s economic potential.

The visit marks the start of a series of engagements with local leaders, businesses and residents as the administration pushes forward with its agenda to strengthen regional infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.
