President William Ruto has announced that the East African Community (EAC) is undergoing significant reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency of its institutions and systems to lower the costs of trade and business across the region.
During a meeting at State House, Nairobi, with EAC Secretary-General Veronica Nduva and her deputies, Annette Ssemuwemba and Andrea Aguer Ariik Malueth, President Ruto emphasized the critical role of digitization in these reforms.

He stated that implementing digital solutions would provide a robust platform, enabling the EAC to better serve its Member States and citizens.

“The East African Community is reforming its institutions and systems to become more efficient and reduce the cost of trade and business,” Ruto remarked. “Digitisation will be the cornerstone of these efforts, allowing us to be fit-for-purpose in serving our nations and our people effectively.”

The President’s comments come amid ongoing efforts to strengthen regional integration and cooperation among EAC member countries, which include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan.

The reforms aim to streamline processes, improve service delivery, and foster a conducive environment for trade and investment.
