President William Ruto has announced an investment of Sh800 million to connect 10,000 homes to electricity across Machakos County under the government’s Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Programme.
The President said the initiative would expand access to power in the county, with Masinga Constituency among the areas set to benefit from the ongoing connections.
In a statement, Ruto said 650 households in Masinga were expected to be connected to electricity by June 2027, as the government seeks to extend power access to more homes.

He also launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project in Masaku and Kiembeni villages at Kagonde, where 200 households are targeted for connection.
The projects are part of the government’s wider electrification drive aimed at reaching homes that remain outside the national electricity grid. Improved access to electricity can support household activities, small businesses and the use of digital services in rural communities.
The Sh800 million investment is expected to contribute to expanded electricity access in Machakos, although the pace of implementation and completion of the planned connections will determine when targeted households begin benefiting.
