President William Ruto has announced a KSh23 billion investment in new road projects in Kisumu County, saying the initiative will expand the county’s road network and unlock its economic potential.
Ruto said the government had allocated the funds for the construction of eight new roads covering approximately 270 kilometres as part of its infrastructure transformation programme.
“Kisumu County will not be left behind in our infrastructure transformation plan. We have allocated KSh23 billion to build eight new roads covering 270km to expand the county’s road network, improving connectivity and unlocking its full economic potential,” Ruto said.
The president made the announcement during his ongoing development tour of Nyanza, where he launched the construction of the 12-kilometre Rabuor-Chiga road in Nyando Constituency.
The KSh962 million project is expected to provide an alternative route linking Kondele with the Kisumu-Ahero road at Rabuor Market.
Ruto said the new road would improve movement within the county while opening up additional routes for residents and businesses.
In Chemelil, the president also inspected ongoing works on the Chemelil-Muhoroni Junction road.
The KSh5.7 billion project forms part of the larger Sh15.7 billion Kisumu-Chemelil-Muhoroni-Kipsitet road upgrade, which is being implemented in three phases.
According to Ruto, the road upgrade will strengthen the connection between Kisumu and Kericho counties and improve access to markets for residents in the two counties.
The project is also expected to support trade and agricultural activities by making it easier to transport goods and produce between the two regions.
Ruto said Kisumu would continue to receive government investment in infrastructure, maintaining that the county would not be excluded from the administration’s development plans.
