Ruto Affirms Strong Diplomatic Ties with Mauritius After Talk With New PM Ramgoolam

President William Ruto has congratulated Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the newly elected Prime Minister of Mauritius, following his victory.

Ruto on his social media platforms shared details of a phone conversation with Prime Minister Ramgoolam, during which he commended the confidence and trust that the people of Mauritius have shown in their new leader and his party.

“I had a phone conversation with the newly elected Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam. I congratulated him on his election and the faith the people of his country have shown in him and his party,” Ruto said.

The President highlighted the strong and friendly diplomatic relations between Kenya and Mauritius, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to further strengthening their ties.

“We affirmed the strong and cordial diplomatic ties between our two countries and peoples, and committed to deepening our relations,” he stated.

Additionally, the President expressed his gratitude after Prime Minister Ramgoolam confirmed his support for Kenya’s candidate, Raila Odinga, for the position of African Union Commission Chairperson.

“Prime Minister Ramgoolam confirmed his support for Kenya’s candidate to the African Union Commission Chairperson, Raila Odinga, for which I expressed much appreciation,” President Ruto concluded.

Ramgoolam previously served as Prime Minister from December 1995 until September 2000, before becoming Leader of the Opposition until 2005.

He returned to office as Prime Minister in July 2005, following his coalition’s victory in the general elections, and served until 2014.
