Riara University has launched an internal review after a video circulating online appeared to show a woman being threatened and assaulted by a group of females in a bathroom.

The university said on Friday, October 2, that the video had drawn attention to the institution after reports emerged that some of the individuals captured in the footage could be its students.

According to the university, the alleged incident occurred off-campus, but it said the conduct could still fall under its student disciplinary framework.

“Riara University unequivocally condemns violence, intimidation, bullying, harassment or misconduct in any form,” the institution said.

It added that the behaviour depicted in the footage was inconsistent with its values and student code of conduct.

The university said its leadership had consequently begun reviewing the matter under the applicable policies and would cooperate with investigative authorities.

The statement came amid growing public outrage over the video, which allegedly shows social media personality Jahenda being confronted by a group of women in a club restroom.

In the footage circulating online, several women are seen surrounding Jahenda, with some appearing to record the incident as she is subjected to threats and physical intimidation.

One of the women, identified online as Vania, is seen confronting Jahenda and allegedly grabbing her by the throat while issuing threats. The footage has since sparked widespread condemnation, with social media users calling for accountability.

The hashtag #JusticeForJahenda also gained traction online as users urged authorities and the institutions reportedly linked to some of those involved to investigate the incident.

Riara University, however, did not confirm the identities of the individuals in the video, saying only that some of those depicted were reportedly its students.

The institution said its internal review would establish the facts surrounding the incident and determine whether any action was warranted under its student code of conduct.
