Raphael Tuju arrested

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju was arrested shortly after reappearing following a mysterious 24-hour disappearance that had sparked widespread speculation.

He resurfaced alongside opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa and Justin Muturi, as well as his legal team, after reports circulated that he had been abducted and his vehicle abandoned. Tuju later claimed he went into hiding after noticing unmarked vehicles trailing him.

At Karen Police Station, Tuju had presented himself to record a statement about his ordeal, according to his lawyer Ndegwa Njiru. However, events took a dramatic turn before he could be officially booked, with lawyers alleging that officers attempted to force him into a Subaru. This triggered a confrontation, with the legal team resisting what they termed as an unlawful arrest.

“Honourable Tuju is unwell. He has injured his back following the incident,” Njiru said, adding that they were yet to understand the reasons behind the arrest.
