Tuju Reappears After Disappearance, Says He Hid Due to Safety Concerns

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has resurfaced a day after his disappearance. Tuju said he hid in fear for his life after suspecting that someone was tracking him.

Speaking to the press on Monday, Tuju said that on Friday evening, he suspected that someone was tracking him in a suspicious vehicle, prompting him to drive to the police station in Karen to report the case.

However, Tuju said his fears worsened on Saturday when the same vehicle was seen tracking him to a radio interview. This time, the vehicle was seen without number plates.

Tuju said at the time, he was accompanied by his aide. Due to his fears, Tuju said he acted on his own to evade the suspected thugs.

“I knew they were closing in on me. I thought very fast and decided to branch off. I was able to lose the thugs. I dumped the car and went into hiding because I thought my life was in danger,” Tuju said.

Tuju said he hid in a place near the Nairobi-Kiambu boundary with his aide until late on Sunday night.

Tuju stated that he did not feel safe returning to the police station because he suspected that the people trailing him could be working with security agencies.

Tuju thanked the family that hosted him, saying that they helped him without asking any questions.

“They did not care about who I am or where I come from. They just helped me as a human being,” he stated.

Tuju stated that the experience left him and his family shaken, saying that they are yet to come to terms with the situation.
