The body of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga has arrived at Nyayo National Stadium for the official State Funeral, marking a historic moment in Kenya’s political and national life.

The convoy bearing the late opposition leader’s remains snaked through Uhuru Highway into the stadium grounds at 9:46 a.m., greeted by thousands of mourners who broke into emotional wails as the hearse made its slow entry.

The journey began earlier at Parliament Buildings, where the body lay in state for public viewing. Shortly after 9:20 a.m., military pallbearers carried the flag-draped casket out of Parliament’s main entrance amid full ceremonial honors.

A guard of honor stood at attention as the hearse, flanked by uniformed officers and family members, made its solemn procession through Nairobi’s streets.

Crowds lined the route, waving flags, twigs, and holding portraits of the man many fondly called “Baba.”

Some wept openly, others sang liberation songs reminiscent of Raila’s long struggle for democracy, justice, and reform.

At Nyayo Stadium, mourners — including Kenyans from all walks of life, regional leaders, and foreign dignitaries — had arrived early to pay their respects.

President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and several senior government officials were already seated when the convoy arrived.

They had earlier viewed the body at Parliament alongside Ruth Odinga, Winnie Odinga, and long-time aide Maurice Ogeta.

Mama Ida Odinga and Rosemary Odinga also took their seats among the family section, surrounded by an atmosphere of deep emotion and reverence.
