Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, has reiterated the need for urgent action on key public health challenges, including hygiene, disease prevention, and access to affordable healthcare.
Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Mwea, the PS emphasized the importance of hygiene in preventing waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
She urged communities to embrace proper sanitation practices to curb the spread of these infections.
Muthoni also raised concerns about the growing threat of drug and tobacco use, particularly among the youth, warning of its severe health and social consequences.
She called for collective action from families, religious institutions, and policymakers to combat substance abuse and protect young people from addiction.
On emerging health threats, she highlighted Mpox, malaria, and tuberculosis, stressing the need for vigilance and early detection to prevent further spread.
She urged communities to take preventive measures and seek medical attention when necessary.
