President William Ruto has received a progress update on the proposed Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park, a landmark project set to be established in the Lake Turkana Basin to position Kenya as a global centre for heritage preservation, scientific research and eco-tourism.
The initiative spearheaded by Presidential Taskforce in partnership with the NMK will implement the project will be located to Kalokol area located at both Turkana and Marsabit county line.
The head of state emphasized that the project was planned to transform the area into the main archaeological research centre of the world. Also it will be the place where cultural heritage will be conserved besides being the destination for sustainable tourist attractions.
In addition, the project will help in the return of more than 32, 000 pieces of Kenyan heritage collections that have been kept in museums and other institutions around the world to their origin country.
Apart from being a center of scientific and cultural attraction, it’s expected to benefit many people living around the region economically. The community should expect such services as provision of water supply to both people and livestock, enhancement of safety and guarding, provision of wider network internet, improvements in road and other infrastructural facilities, modernization of health and education services and a renovation of old museums within the region.
“At the local level, the community will benefit from the provision of water for people and livestock, boosting of security, digital connectivity, development of infrastructure, improvement of health and educational facilities, and renovation of existing museums, among others.” Ruto stated
Turkana region has been at the centre of groundbreaking archeological discoveries over the years, including the 1.6 million years old Turkana Boy and the oldest stone tools used by the Early Man.
