President William Ruto has joined other world leaders in congratulating Uganda President Yoweri Museveni following his re-election, securing a seventh term.

In the final results announced by the country’s electoral commission, Museveni secured 7,944,772 votes, translating to 71.61% of the valid votes. His rival opponent, Bobi Wine of the NUP party, came in a distant second place with 2,741,238 votes, representing 24.72%.

In a statement shared on his social media pages, President Ruto commended Museveni, saying the win reflects the trust that the people of Uganda have in his personal leadership and the confidence enjoyed by the NRM party.

"I convey, on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Kenya and on my own behalf, my warm congratulations and best wishes to President Yoweri Museveni and to the great people of Uganda. Your decisive victory at the just concluded competitive election reflects the trust that the people of the Republic of Uganda have in your personal leadership and the confidence enjoyed by the NRM party. I am certain your re-election reinvigorates your resolve to accelerate the transformation of your country," said President Ruto.

The head of state also lauded Ugandans for maintaining peace throughout the electoral process, saying it attests to the democratic maturity of Uganda.

President Ruto said he looks forward to continued Kenya-Uganda relations to advance the countries’ shared priorities.

"Dear brother, our two countries enjoy deep fraternal bonds which will no doubt benefit from your unwavering commitment. I reaffirm the readiness of the Government of the Republic of Kenya to work with you to advance our shared priorities for the mutual socio-economic benefit of the citizens of Kenya and Uganda as well as our region and the continent," he added.
