President William Ruto has designated August 27 of every year as Katiba Day to commemorate the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.
In a presidential proclamation seen by TUKIO.co.ke, President Ruto said:
"The promulgation of the 2010 Constitution marked a defining moment in our nation's history, heralding a new era of constitutionalism, citizen-centred governance, devolution and equitable development, protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, and a shared aspiration for a more just, equitable, and prosperous nation for all."
As such, the head of state said August 27 will serve as a reminder to all Kenyans of their duty to obey, preserve, protect, and implement the constitution.
However, President Ruto clarified that Katiba Day is not a public holiday but a national day, meaning Kenyans will continue with their normal day-to-day activities.
