The police are probing the killing of a pregnant woman, whose body was dumped along Piai-Itangi Murram Road in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County.

The body was recovered overnight on Friday morning by the National Police Service (NPS). “Preliminary results indicate that the body sustained head injury and a bruise to the hip, ” NPS said in a statement.

The deceased was identified to be Catherine Njeru.

Local police investigators, working with officers from the County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Kirinyaga County (under the direction of the County Criminal Investigations Officer), arrived at the scene to initiate a murder investigation.

The Central Regional Police Command has relieved its Regional Criminal Investigations Officer to assist.

According to NPS, Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja has been informed on the incident and ordered Director of Criminal Investigation to quicken the investigation and bring the facts to light.

The NPS have extended sympathies to Njeru’s family, relatives, friends and have committed to carry out thorough investigations and hold those responsible to account.

Residents of Itangi have been urged to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations continue.
