Police officers in Kakamega County have recovered three head of cattle suspected to have been stolen following a dramatic vehicle pursuit in Khwisero Sub-county that ended with one suspect arrested and two others escaping.

According to National Police Service, the case happened in the first few hours of Monday, July 7 when police who were patrolling the Khumusalaba Junction area as a checkpoint found out a vehicle that looked very suspicious. The car had been coming from the Mumias-Ekero direction to Buyangu.

Police said the driver made an ubrupt U-turn upon noticing a checkpoint in what officers believed was an attempt to evade security personnel, prompting an immediate pursuit.

The chase ended at Mushiangubu when the vehicle sketched and rolled down off the road to a ditch.

The police caught and detained one suspect at the scene while two other managed to run to nearby bush and hide.

Inside the vehicle, they found the three cattle that had obviously been stolen. Officers have brought the animals back home and kept them at Khwisero Police Station until identification and collection by the legitimate owners.

The arrested suspect has since been arraigned in court as investigations continue to establish the origin of the livestock and to trace the two suspects who escaped.

The NPS has again pledged to safeguard lives, fight crime, and see that criminal deeds are properly punished.
