Police are investigating a series of violent incidents reported across several counties during the Christmas holiday, leaving at least five people dead in suspected murder cases.
In Emusonga village, Kakamega County, a man surrendered himself to police after allegedly killing his wife during a domestic dispute on Christmas Day.
According to police, the suspect confessed to attacking the woman with a mattock following a quarrel at their home.
He later walked to a nearby police station where he reported the incident and led officers to the scene. The woman’s body was found lying in a pool of blood with deep head injuries. The murder weapon was recovered and secured as an exhibit, while the body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
In a separate incident in Kasyelia, Makueni County, the body of a 28-year-old lorry driver, Peter Kianga, was found dumped in a thicket along the Masii–Tawa road on Christmas Eve.
Police said the victim’s hands and legs were tied with shoelaces, while an elastic band was wrapped around his neck. He also had head injuries and blood oozing from his mouth.
Investigators believe Kianga may have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the scene. His lorry was later found abandoned along the Tawa–Matuu road. The motive for the killing remains unknown.
Meanwhile, in Kingeero area, Kabete Sub-County, Kiambu, a 25-year-old man identified as Clinton Waitii was fatally stabbed during an altercation with a colleague at the Mwimuto Fresh Farm Produce Market.
He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police arrested a suspect in connection with the incident as investigations continue.
In Pap Ndege area, police are pursuing suspects who allegedly killed a boda boda rider before stealing his motorcycle. The body of Varon Okinyi, 25, was found dumped near Kabunde airstrip. His motorcycle was missing, raising suspicion of robbery with violence.
Elsewhere in Savane area, Kakamega County, a 25-year-old man identified as Eugene Imiri was found murdered and his body dumped in a ditch.
Witnesses told police that a group of about 20 people stormed his home, dragged him out, and tortured him to death. No arrests had been made by Boxing Day.
Police say investigations are ongoing in all the cases, with bodies moved to various mortuaries for post-mortem examinations as detectives pursue suspects behind the killings.
