Police have launched investigations after a human skeleton was discovered dumped in a swamp at Rurii Dam in Nyakumu area, Kikuyu sub-county, Kiambu County.
According to police, the remains are believed to have been dumped at the site after the killing occurred elsewhere. The skeleton had not been identified by Monday.
Residents in the area reportedly spotted the remains and alerted the authorities, who moved the skeleton to the mortuary pending identification, postmortem and further investigations.
In a separate incident in Kiamachimbi area, Mathira sub-county, Nyeri County, the body of a woman was found floating in Karogoto River.
Police said the body was discovered on January 19 by a local farmer and was half naked, with a deep cut on the right side of the eye. The body was moved to the mortuary for identification and postmortem as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, a night guard was killed during an attack at a construction site in Nairobi’s Lavington area.
Police identified the deceased as Laban Masongele, 56. The motive of the Sunday night attack remains unclear as nothing was stolen from the site.
Preliminary investigations indicate that two guards were on duty when two men knocked at the gate and forced their way in while armed with crude weapons. The suspects attacked Masongele, fatally injuring him, as his female colleague attempted to flee.
The survivor told police that three more men joined the attackers, restrained her by tying her hands and legs, and locked her in a room before beating the guard to death and fleeing the scene.
The deceased sustained visible injuries on the neck. His body was moved to the mortuary, and detectives revisited the scene on Monday as investigations intensified.
Elsewhere in Dudi area, Kakamega County, the body of a man was found on the banks of Mumulakha Stream on Monday.
Police said the man’s left arm had its skin peeled off, raising suspicion that he was killed and later dumped in the stream. The motive for the killing is yet to be established.
The body was taken to the mortuary pending postmortem and identification.
In Murang’a County, police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy who drowned in Kahuro area.
The boy, a Form Three student at Weithaga Day Mixed School, was found floating in a river. His clothes were recovered along the riverbank, leading police to suspect he drowned while swimming.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem examination.
Police have urged members of the public to share any information that may assist ongoing investigations.
