Police trainees at the National Police College in Kiganjo now have a new space to train, unwind, and stay fit thanks to a newly launched state-of-the-art gymnasium that can accommodate up to 500 users.

The facility was officially opened on Thursday by Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, who praised the Kenya National Police DT Sacco for fully funding and managing the project.

“This is not only the best-managed Sacco in Kenya, but also one that is constantly looking for ways to add value to its members’ lives,” said Oparanya.

He encouraged police officers to stay physically fit and also plan ahead for life after service by engaging in financial planning and productive ventures.

The modern gym is fully equipped with wellness amenities like changing rooms, showers, and an on-site medical room, making it a comprehensive training facility of its kind within the Service.

Representing the Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General Patrick Tito described the gym as a major investment in officer wellness and professionalism.

“Today’s policing requires mental, emotional strength and physical endurance. A facility like this helps build that capacity,” said Tito.

The gym is expected to help police trainees and officers manage stress better, improve fitness, and support the demanding physical requirements of law enforcement work.

Also present at the launch were Co-operatives Principal Secretary Patrick Kilemi, Police DT Sacco chairman David Mategwa, CEO Solomon Atsiaya, as well as senior police commanders and Sacco delegates.

The Commandant of the Kiganjo Main Campus, SAIG Nyale Munga, hosted the delegation, alongside other senior trainers and directors from the School of Leadership, Basic Studies, and Faculty of Professionalism.
