Easter Travel

The government has announced several security and traffic measures ahead of Easter celebrations, as thousands of Kenyans prepare to travel to different parts of the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, National Police Service spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga announced that more police officers will be deployed on the roads and in public places to ensure Kenyans’ safety.

According to Nyaga, Easter celebrations come with a number of activities, such as increased movements, social events, and tourism, which also attract some level of safety risks if not well managed.

To address these safety risks, police will work hand in hand with the National Transport and Safety Authority to ensure traffic rules are adhered to, thus reducing accidents on various routes.

Motorists, bodaboda operators, and pedestrians have been cautioned to be on the lookout and observe all traffic rules. Police have also cautioned against speeding, driving when drunk, overloading, and driving when using a phone.

Motorists have also been cautioned to drive carefully, and bodaboda operators have been asked to put on helmets and reflector jackets, while pedestrians have been asked to cross the road at designated areas.

They have also been advised to take a look at their cars before proceeding to their respective destinations to avoid any breakdown or accidents resulting from mechanical failures.

At the same time, security has been enhanced in various public places such as markets, churches, shopping centers, and many more. The police have pointed out that more patrols have also been deployed to ensure the safety of citizens during this period.

The public is also encouraged to take caution and report any suspicious activities to the police by calling 999 and 911 emergency lines or by reporting to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, NTSA hinted on new strategies which are likely to be deployed to ensure road safety in the country.

This follows after a meeting between the Director General of NTSA, Nashon Kondiwa, and the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to deliberate on how to improve road safety in the country by ensuring road laws are adhered to in the country.
