ministry of health deploys 6,484 healthcare interns

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has flagged off the deployment of 6,484 medical interns to various health facilities across the country, kicking off the 2025/2026 internship program.

Speaking at Afya House in Nairobi, Duale said the move was part of the government’s plan to ensure timely training and integration of health workers into the system, as it pushes forward with the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

“These young professionals are not just interns, they are future caregivers. Every patient they encounter represents a life, a story, and a trust placed in their hands. I expect them to serve with discipline, humility, and professionalism,” said the CS.

Duale underline the Kenya Kwanza administration’s focus on health as a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

He said the sector needs not just qualified personnel, but individuals committed to compassionate and ethical service.

He also pledged that the ministry would remain consistent in deploying interns on time and will continue to invest in better planning and training.

Also present at the ceremony were Public Health PS Mary Muthoni, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah, KNUN’s Seth Panyako, and KUCO CEO George Gibore.
