Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has suffered another setback in the Mt Kenya region after over 2,000 Njuri Ncheke elders broke ties with him.
In a meeting held on Wednesday, September 18, the elders, in turn, overwhelmingly pledged their allegiance to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
The elders backed the Mt Kenya MPs’ decision to have Kindiki as the region’s kingpin and their link to President William Ruto.
Njuri Ncheke is the supreme governing council of elders for the Meru people of Kenya.
With the latest move, Gachagua’s popularity in the vote-rich region is seemingly dwindling.
