The ongoing security operation Ondoa Jangili in Marsabit, Isiolo, and Samburu counties has made significant progress, with key militia groups being neutralized, according to security officials.

The operation, led by the Special Operation Group under the National Police Service, aims to eliminate criminal activities linked to the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA)—a militia believed to have originated from Ethiopia. The group has been blamed for a wave of insecurity in the region, including abductions, manipulation of local communities, and illegal human and drug trafficking through the porous Kenya-Ethiopia border.

According to security reports, the Ondoa Jangili operation has successfully dismantled several OLA strongholds, significantly reducing their ability to terrorize local residents. Intelligence sources indicate that key members of the militia have either been captured or driven out of their hideouts, disrupting their chain of command and operational networks.Residents in affected counties have reported improved security, with reduced incidents of banditry and cross-border criminal activities.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace in the region and preventing any resurgence of militia operations.Given the transnational nature of the militia’s activities, Kenyan authorities are working closely with Ethiopian security agencies to strengthen border control measures.

Security analysts have called for enhanced intelligence-sharing and regional cooperation to ensure a long-term solution to the threat posed by the OLA and other criminal groups operating along the Kenya-Ethiopia border. The government has urged communities in the affected regions to support security efforts by providing information that could help in tracking down remaining militia elements. With Ondoa Jangili yielding positive results, authorities are optimistic about restoring lasting peace and stability in northern Kenya.
