Kericho Family Appeals for Justice after Woman Dies in House Fire

Police are investigating a fire that swept through Jangwani Village in Mathare Area 4, burning down more than 45 houses and leaving many families with nothing.

The fire, which broke out earlier this week, killed one person and left two young boys badly injured. They are fighting for their lives at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Survivors say they have been left alone to deal with the tragedy.

“We have been here for four days since the fire and no one has come to assist us,” said Pauline Kamura, a resident.
“We are sleeping in the cold without food. Leaders are nowhere to be seen,” added Evan Omondi, another villager.

Five-year-old Gabriel Muuo Mulinge and his two-year-old brother Daniel Mumo are among the victims. Both are in the ICU after suffering serious burns.

Their mother, Joyce Maweya Mulinge, recalled the moment the fire broke out.

“He asked me where the fire had come from. He only saw flames suddenly inside the house,” she said tearfully.

Police say investigations are ongoing to find out what caused the fire, but in the meantime, families in Jangwani Village are struggling to pick up the pieces of their lives.
